nwestiowa.com | SIOUX CENTER—The most successful music group and third highest selling artist in the history of America’s Got Talent is coming to Sioux Center.
The Texas Tenors will be the guests during the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra’s Winter Pops Concert set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, in the B.J. Haan Auditorium on Dordt University’s campus.
The Texas Tenors have performed all over and are a highly sought after group, according to Onsby Rose, NISO’s executive director and general manager, who’s looking forward to working with the renowned popular music group.
“The thought was that bringing them to N’West Iowa would be a great opportunity for our community to hear a wonderful music group without having to travel a far distance to attend a concert,” he said. “This is one of the great things about NISO; the organization helps bring musical arts opportunities to our region, even though we are very rural. This is a huge advantage over other areas of the country that are similar to ours. Small town, but still great culture.”
Since appearing on the America’s Got Talent in 2009, The Texas Tenors — JC, Marcus and John — have released four studio albums, two Public Broadcasting Service specials, four DVDs, multiple singles and a children’s book. Their most recent albums “Rise” and “A Collection of Broadway and American Classics” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Classical Chart.
These classically-trained, versatile tenors have performed more than 1,300 concerts around the world including headline shows in Las Vegas, China and a 24-city tour of the United Kingdom. In addition to collaborations with some of the most prestigious symphonies in the world, including the Houston Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony and The City of Prague Orchestra, The Texas Tenors have performed at The White House National Tree Lighting, Medal of Honor Ceremonies, numerous charity events, NBA games and The PBR World Finals in Las Vegas.
Celebrating 10 years together, they were honored to be included among the Top 50 acts in the world and the only vocal group from the United States invited to compete on NBC’s prime-time series “America’s Got Talent: The Champions.”
“We are excited to host them as it is the biggest name that NISO has ever had here, as well as it is a great opportunity for our community to be able to hear this highly renowned group, right in their own backyard,” Rose said. “Most rural communities do not have these type opportunities.”
The opportunity is supported, in part, by the Iowa Arts Council, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs and a generous grant from the Sioux Center Recreation and Arts Council.
NISO hosts four regular concerts each year, including the “pops” concert.
“We have chosen winter or ours because it fits best around our rehearsal schedule and member schedules,” Rose said.
